Blowfish, the New Hangover Cure

The American entrepreneurial spirit truly knows no bounds.  Today’s example: Brenna Haysom, longtime boozer, Harvard grad, and genius inventor recently received Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for Blowfish, the cure for the common hangover.

As reported in the New York Daily News, “the over-the-counter drug cocktail combines 1,000 milligrams of aspirin, 120 milligrams of caffeine and a stomach-soothing agent into two effervescent tablets taken the morning after a night of heavy drinking.  Once dissolved in water, the remedy claims to knock out multiple hangover symptoms in just 15 to 30 minutes.”

Although her product was created “from personal experience,” Haysom warns, “I definitely don’t encourage people to get obliterated;” instead, it’s “a really effective product for people who have a couple too many: A happy hour that goes a little long, or holiday parties are a perfect example … and they wake up feeling terrible. This gets you functioning again quickly.”

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to find Blowfish on local DC pharmacy shelves until after the holiday season.  A single dose will cost $2.99; a six-pack $11.99.

New Yorkers, however, are in luck: “It is currently available in Ricky’s NYC stores or online at ForHangovers.com, which offers free shipping and 24-hour courier service in Manhattan. The tablets will hit Duane Reade shelves in January.”

Until then, ibuprofen and a big breakfast will just have to do.  Once Blowfish is available, I’ll begin field testing.  Who said science can’t be fun?

  1. I’m all for innovation, but how is this any different from Alka-Seltzer, a double espresso, and a shot of Pepto? Add in some probiotic yogurt, a banana, and some toast with jam, and your hangover will be cured in jig time. My way spreads the wealth too. Just sayin. 🙂

    • Good point, although who says you can have some Blowfish also with your espresso, yogurt, banana, toast, and jam. (Or coffee, steak, and eggs, in my case).

      • I certainly didn’t say that you couldn’t. Just pointing out that this invention is essentially the hangover version of NyQuil, i.e. multiple medications in one, and therefore, not particularly groundbreaking except for the all in one dose aspect, as opposed to my hangover cure cocktail methodology. And as far as the steak and eggs, sign me up!

  2. What they really need is a preventative, something that will guarantee no hangover if you pop it before bedtime.

    • Oh HoneyBadger…in this respect, you know THF as well as I do: that’s what Pepto is for! (Except in lieu of “pop”, substitute “chug”!)

      • True…Won’t touch the headache though. Thus we need a pink slimy Pepto/Aspirin combo. THF do you remember about 10 years ago there was a brand of beer that had vitamins and thiamine attached to the bottle of beer so alcoholics would not become deficient?

      • Usually when you talk about ending a night of drinking with something pink and slimy, you have something else in mind, HoneyBadger. But your point is well taken. 🙂
